Topping the card will be a battle for MFC world bantamweight crown as reigning champion Anthony Birchak defends his title for the first time against No. 1 contender Jesse Brock. In the co-main event, newly crowned MFC world lightweight champ Tom “Da Tank” Gallicchio puts his belt on the line against rising star Marcus “Bad Intentions” Edwards.
The MFC 41 lineup will also feature a bevy of the Maximum Fighting Championship’s best talents including Victor “The Matrix” Valimaki, Jared “The Yeti” McComb, Shane “Shaolin” Campbell and Andrew “Andrewconda” McInnes, facing his toughest test to date when he goes to battle with Jacob “Feel Good” Volkmann.
“This is card is all about excitement, action, and fighters who finish,” said MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich. “From the title fights right through the roster, these are guys who the fans want to see because they bring the most personality and ability every time they come to fight.
“These guys are crowd pleasers and they are the kind of fighters who make a night of MFC action the best it can be. I can not wait to showcase this amount of talent to those people coming to see the show at the Shaw Conference Centre and those watching live on AXS TV Fights.”
Birchak (11-1), the MFC’s inaugural bantamweight champion, will put his title on the line for the first time at MFC 41, and the Tucson, Arizona, fighter has been on a tremendous roll since joining the Maximum Fighting Championship. He followed up his win over Ryan Benoit at MFC 37 by capturing the MFC’s 135-pound division title with a second-round submission of Tito Jones at MFC 38.
A winner of five straight fights, Birchak won the MFC’s Fight of the Year honor for his victory over Benoit and was handed the Submission of the Night in the victory over Jones. He then received even greater notoriety by being featured in Sports Illustrated’s 2013 Photos of the Year as he stood on the ring ropes celebrating his title win. Birchak is currently ranked #61 in the world by Fight Matrix.
Brock (18-8) stunned the MMA world when he notched a convincing unanimous decision win over Kevin Croom at MFC 40, ending Croom’s nine-fight winning streak. That win allowed Brock to soar up the Fight Matrix rating, vaulting him to #37 in the 135-pound world rankings. The Boise, Idaho, product has won three of his last four outings, and has faced a number of elite-level foes including Caol Uno, Tyson Nam, Demetrious Johnson, and Donald Cerrone.
Riding a three-fight winning streak, Gallicchio (19-8) took the MFC lightweight title at MFC 40 as he defeated Kurt Southern with a first-round submission in a rematch of their first encounter from MFC 39. The New Jersey native now trains in Temecula, California, alongside teammate and current MFC middleweight champ Sam Alvey. Of his 19 wins, Gallicchio has registered 11 stoppages via submission with eight of those coming inside the opening round.
Edwards (7-2) also brings a three-fight winning streak into MFC 41 and having two of those wins coming under the MFC banner. At MFC 39, Edwards, who fights out of Littleton, Colorado, stopped Sean Powers via rear-naked choke at 4:50 of Round 1, and he followed that up by tapping out Aaron Gallant at 4:51 of Round 1 by rear-naked choke at MFC 40. Edwards has not let one of his victories get to the judges’ scorecards and has not let an opponent get past the 26-second mark of Round 2.
Currently, Fight Matrix has Gallicchio seeded #61 in the world’s 155-pound division rankings with Edwards set at #94.
Further main card and prelim matchups for MFC 41: All In will be announced as soon as possible.
