Courtesy of MMA Junkie: In a key bantamweight contest, Brandon Hempleman (10-2) staved off the wrestling of Alexis Vila (14-5) in a few early exchanges and then battled back with crisp, aggressive kickboxing, to score a unanimous-decision win.
Vila missed on a few takedown attempts in the early going, but he quickly found success with a pair of overhands that landed flush. At that point, Vila seemed content to box for the remainder of the frame, and while he had success with powerful shots, Hempleman also found moments with a few well-placed punches and kicks of his own.
The action stayed busy in the second, as Hempleman picked up the pace with his kickboxing attack but Vila remained quick and looked to counter, as well. Both refused to back down, and they traded toe-to-toe for the entirety of the round.

It’s been a year full of ups and downs for Brandon “Hot Rod” Hempleman (9-2). Ever since losing his debut to Marlon Moraes, recovering from a broken leg, and then seeing fight after fight nixed due to various circumstances, the Idaho native has seen his share of setbacks. Regardless, the tenacious scrapper with an impenetrable spirit is focused on making a statement in 2014 and putting those obstacles in his rear view.
